Vale is the County Seat of Malheur County in eastern Oregon
and is nestled in a farming area that has been nicknamed "The Treasure
Valley" and is also called the Snake
River Valley.
This area has three main towns on the Oregon
side: Vale, Nyssa and Ontario.
Vale was the first stop in Oregon along the Oregon Trail. Ontario is located on the I-84 freeway just
inside the Oregon/Idaho border. Vale is approximately 17 miles west of Ontario where Highway
20/26 divides. Highway 20 goes west to Burns, Bend,
Albany and Newport.
Highway 26 heads north and west to John Day, Prineville, Portland
and Seaside.
Recently, murals depicting life on
the Oregon Trail have been painted in Vale and
visitors enjoy touring the town by horse drawn carriage. One of the
attractions is visiting the site of actual Oregon Trail
ruts made by the covered wagons. Vale's high school is renowned for their
winning football teams, auto mechanics program and all-around scholastic
excellence.
